Sharps Disposal

Privacy

The ZIP code you type and your location stay on your device. The finder and the map do their work in your own browser and save nothing. The street map loads from this site's own storage, not from a map company.

What happens to what you type

  • The finder needs a list of ZIP codes to match yours to a county. It does not load all of them. It loads one small file from this site with the ZIP codes that start with the same two digits as yours. For example, typing 02134 loads the file for ZIP codes that start with 02.
  • That file request goes to this site, like any page view. It shows which two-digit file was loaded, not your full ZIP code.
  • Nothing you type is saved in cookies, local storage or a database. There is no account.
  • The map also loads, from this site, one list of map points for ZIP codes and counties. It is the same file for everyone.
  • When you search a ZIP code or pick a state, the map moves to that area and loads the street map for it (see below).
  • When you open an official link, you leave this site. That government site has its own privacy policy.

What the map loads

  • The street map, its fonts and its icons load from tiles.sharpsdisposalnearme.com. That is this site's own storage at Cloudflare, the company that also hosts this site. No map company receives these requests, and there is no map key or map account.
  • Like any online map, it asks only for the pieces (tiles) of the area on the screen. So these requests show roughly which area the map shows, the same way a page view shows which page was opened. They go only to our own storage.
  • The map's code and the drop-off points load from this site.
  • The map does not load until it is near the screen.

Use my location

  • When you tap Use my location, your browser asks you first. If you allow it, the page uses your position only on your device. It finds your county in a county shape file loaded from this site, sorts the list by distance and moves the map.
  • Your position is never sent to us or anyone else. It is not saved, and it is never put in a web address.
  • The map then loads the street map around you from our own storage, as it does for any area you look at. Those requests name map pieces a few miles across, not your position.
  • If you tap Directions (or Open in a map) on a drop-off point, you leave this site: your phone's map app, or the OpenStreetMap website on a computer, opens at that drop-off point. It has its own privacy policy.

What the site loads

  • Every file comes from this site or from its own map storage, except one visit counter. There are no outside fonts or ads, and no trackers beyond that counter.
  • The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage and does not fingerprint you. It records page views, the page you came from, your browser type and country, in totals only. The ZIP code you type is not part of it.
  • There are no sign up forms and no newsletter.
